It was under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and his practice of “passive resistance” that India achieved her independence
from Great Britain in 1947. In his autobiography, Gandhi talks of his days as a student in South Africa, feeling drawn to Jesus and the practice of Christianity. And so he set out one Sunday to go to a Christian church. There, at the entrance to the church, he was told that, if he wanted to attend a service, he must do so in a church reserved for black people, and not in that church building which only white people were allowed to attend. Gandhi no longer felt drawn to Christianity!

There is a saying that “I might be the only gospel that others will read today.”

Inspire us, Lord, to take the gospel more seriously, that we may be credible witnesses of your love. Amen.
